Pirate; AKA The Red Claw

 

Robert is a former space navy officer.  He lost his left arm in an accident, and has a bright red cybernetic arm to replace it.  The media began referring to him as The Red Claw, and the name has stuck.

 

He attempts to avoid systems with capable system defenses and instead attempts to raid shipping passing through less-defended systems. This often includes attacking incoming ships to newer colonies

along the Superior frontier.

 

One of his most effective tactics has been to approach the governments of the colonies along the frontier and offer them “protection” for a fee. If the fee is paid, the Red Claws will not attack the colony’s imports / exports but they will also protect those ships against other pirates (ex: Xiximes).

 

While other pirate bands have a reputation for cruelty, the Red Claws are known for avoiding violence where possible: they use threats and coercion as their primary weapons. However, Robert is also well-known for pursuing vengeance against those who cheat or lie to him (or betray the Red Claws). 

 

On colonies which have paid the protection money, the Red Claws often use those funds to assist the locals. Members have been seen on new colonies helping to build port facilities, schools, hospitals, and even government offices.
